VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Open Door is a Person Centred Agency and the model of counselling is Person Centred.

Open Door is an accredited organisational member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Open Door has a rigorous recruitment selection and training programme.

We recruit throughout the year for our twice yearly training programme.

The Training takes place in the Spring and Autumn.

The Initial Training programme is 90 hours of training (usually one day per week over a period of 12 weeks, this includes some weekends.

The process:-

1. Attendance at an information session.

2. Completion of an application form and attendance at a Recruitment Day.

3. Following the recruitment day volunteers who are deemed to be at a stage of readiness will be invited to join the next Initial Training Programme.

4. Anyone not invited to join the training will be offered face to face feedback.

5. On completion of the 80 hours of training there will be a further selection process. Any volunteer who is not invited to join the team of volunteer counsellors will be offered face to face feedback.

6. All counsellors at Open Door are provided with clinical supervision and ongoing developmental training.

All counsellors undergo an enhanced Police check.

Open Door training is delivered by two trainers and at least one of the trainers is a BACP accredited counsellor and trainer.
