About Us

Established in 1967, Open Door is a leading Person Centred children and young persons counselling service. We offer, free at the point of access 1-1 counseling for children and young people aged 12-25.

Person Centred counselling is working holistically dealing with both thoughts and feelings. Working with young people at pivotal times in their lives.

Person Centred counselling is not offering advice or techniques or giving answers. It is about helping young people in a supportive environment to find their own answers, to enable them to live more fulfilling lives, enjoy healthy relationships and build resilience within themselves.

All our counsellors are recruited, selected and trained by the service. They undertake ongoing professional development training. They receive monthly clinical supervision, training in Safeguarding and we adhere to Birmingham's LSCB guidelines.

The organisation is accredited by BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.) Open Door works to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy ( http://www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework/ ) and adheres to its complaints procedure.

Open Door has long established contracts with a number of Birmingham schools. Providing on-site counselling in schools. We have excellent working relationships with our schools and really value their support and commitment.

We are always looking for new volunteer counsellors to help us increase our capacity - see our Volunteers page for more information.
